We’re getting pretty good at date outfits, interview looks, and brunchwear. There aren’t too many situations that really puzzle us when it comes to pulling a look. But every now and then an event comes along that calls into question our sartorial prowess.

What does one wear then, to meet the parents? It’s tricky. You want something conservative, but it should still show your personality. You want to look cute, without upstaging Mom. It’s like playing a game of fashion chess!

Soooo….Target Sells Wedding Gowns Now?

Well, these exist. It’s not that we’re down on getting a great deal on a wedding dress. Just the opposite, really. What we’re frowning on though is the tendency of affordable wedding dresses to all look the same. And not in a good way.

Target recently released a line of wedding gowns, and while we’re over the moon about the prices, we’re cowering under a blanket over the designs. We’ve seen anything from flirty frocks to flowing maxis, all coming in at affordable prices and in shades of white fit to wed. Why do affordable dresses tend to take a turn for the worse as soon as they’re stamped with a “wedding” label? Our advice? Search “white dress” instead, and keep the wedding part to yourself. You might be surprised at what you find.

We suppose the moral of the story is that you can now buy a wedding dress at Target. If you really (really) want to. (Racked)

Collab Report: Suno For Uniqlo

Hi/low brand collaborations are easy to come by these days, if you’ve got a quick “add to cart” trigger or the stamina to wait in day-long lines. One place that’s always a sigh of sartorial relief is Uniqlo, where we can find amazing brand collabs without the drama. (Target, H&M, take notes).

Today we scoped out the just-released Suno for Uniqlo collaboration. We are huge fans of Suno’s feminine-menswear vibe (yes, that’s a real thing), and don’t even get us started on the prints. While we’re at it, Uniqlo, collab or not, is always a staple in our closets, for anything from basics, to workwear, to pretty summer dresses. While the Suno collection was small, it was memorable, including spring-fresh prints and plenty of chic shapes to go around. And yes, fear not, the prices are still Uniqlo-worthy, so anyone can afford a piece (or two!) of this once-in-a-blue-moon team-up.

Internet Explosion Of The Day: Phillip Lim For Target

I mean, should we just start waiting in line now? The news breaking the internet this morning is that Phillip Lim is the next all-star designer to partner up with Target. Set to hit stores on September 15th, 2013, we’re predicting Missoni-level hysteria.

As with any affordable-wave collaboration effort, anticipation of this collection will no doubt build steadily (in this case all damn summer), to the point where we’re sick of seeing ads before product hits the shelves. A small price to pay for limited edition designer goods that people with normal budgets can actually afford. Will you be donning a helmet and pads and lining up with the best of them? Or will you just, you know, wait for eBay?

Recap: Mom 2.0 Summit 2013!

I’ve had a few days to re-adjust to normal life after a fun, sun-drenched trip to Mom 2.0 Summit. Walking away, the things that stood out the most to me were (aside from the unseasonably warm weather and amazing views!), the genuinely friendly (, welcoming and impressive) women I met during the summit. It was exciting and inspiring to interact with so many entrepreneurs at various stages in their ventures.

I must extend a huge thank you to Rachel Faucett of Handmade Charlotte for being a Mom 2.0 “mentor” for Keep at the summit. She’s enthusiastic in all she does, and introducing me to her colleagues, friends and peers was so appreciated.

After 17 years in the magazine publishing industry, it was a treat to attend panels on effective ways to work with brands and independent publishers (not “mommy bloggers!”), who are currently balancing journalistic integrity with effective strategies for marketing to maximize revenue. I would really enjoy the chance to lend my years of experience at a number of publications (Men’s Health, Women’s Health, Prevention, etc), to any of the Mom 2.0 Summit publishers who are looking for advice on building media partnerships and negotiating with brands—gratis!

Many thanks to Laura Mayes and her team for producing such an amazing conference that enabled networking, partnerships, learnings, and the chance to meet some truly inspiring moms.
